Luther Memorial is committed to the use of technology as an important aspect of education. Luther's computer lab contains some of the latest hardware and software technologies. Luther uses PC desktops that operate on current Microsoft Windows software and support Microsoft Office applications. Luther's information technology resources are also supported by a high speed, color laserjet printer, a scanner, and a digital camera. Students at Luther have supervised access to filtered internet content.
All of Luther's students visit the computer lab once a week, every week for 50 minutes to learn about word processing, spreadsheets, databases, multimedia, desktop publishing, and internet search skills. Computer skills are developed through thematic units and hands on computing experience.
Luther Memorial utilizes curriculum developed by School Technology Programs that incorporates classroom content into computer lessons. In addition to having access to the computer lab, every classroom has two computers on either PC or Macintosh platforms.
Some of the upper grade students have learned about the internal components of a PC by disassembling and reassembling a PC. In addition to application software, every Luther student learns about the Windows operating system as well as fundamental hardware basics.
