Luther students learn early about the responsibility and blessing of being able to make positive contributions to their communities. Whether they are collecting canned goods, organizing a fund drive, or singing at a retirement home, Luther students have opportunities to "give something back" throughout the year.
In November of each year, the students collect nonperishable food for the
Central Virginia Food Bank and the
Bethlehem Church Food Pantry. Over a thousand pounds of donated food is then sorted and delivered to the food banks on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, along with a monetary contribution from the November chapel offering. Christmas finds the floor around the tree in the multi-purpose room piled high with new toys and clothes that will be donated to one of the area
Christmas Mother programs.
Other service activities include letters of thanks and encouragement to our
soldiers in Iraq and
Afghanistan. Monthly chapel donations are designated to support projects such
as the Wishing Well Project at Children's Hospital,
Habitat For Humanity, Animals at Maymont. and foreign relief
efforts such as Cows for Kids.
